The Schoolyear of Scott

So today is my last day as Development Coordinator at Starlight Children’s Foundation.  In honor of this occasion, I thought it would be fun to look back – reminisce, if you will – on some of the more interesting things that have occurred here the past two and a half years:

• The one time a clearly homosexual hair stylist named Damien yelled (and I mean, yelled!)  at me during a fundraiser because there wasn’t enough vodka for him to drink.  This was at 10:30am.
• The one time a famous Atlanta meteorologist came to one of our events, apparently had a couple drinks, then left with the head portion of the Macy’s Pink Pig mascot costume.  I can’t think of many things a weatherman would want to do with a Pig’s Head, but then again, I’m not a weatherman.
• The one time I was driving to work in the morning and witnessed about 50 members of the Atlanta SWAT team hanging out at the Taco Bell right near my apartment.  Apparently someone came in during the early morning shift and locked all the employees in the freezer.
• The one time I was walking to the bathroom and saw, what appeared to be,  someone who really, really had to go to the bathroom but didn’t quite get there in time.
• The one time I was walking past our building’s mailbox and an older woman couldn’t get it open.  When I explained to her that it has been broken for the past day, she looked directly at me, bowed her head, then whispered, “that’s just sad”.  I couldn’t help but giggle.
• The one time, about three hours before that encounter with that woman, where I broke the mailbox.
• The one time my interns informed me that they have been keeping track and I had already gone to the bathroom 6 times that day.
• The one time those same interns informed me that they just realized it wasn’t me who always smelled bad, it was the cafe from next door.

And, last but not least, perhaps the single greatest email that has ever been exchanged in a work place.  I give you, unedited, the Pirate email:

I`m very  happy to hear the  STar light , Starbright   program is  still taking  place  < its  a  wonderful  thing  for  the  kids  an ( yes  we  would like  to donate our  time once  again ! )  this  year ” i had  just  went  threw surgery myself  this  time  last year so we could only do 2 date`s  ( i know what its like all to well  to lay in bed with nothing to do lonely ,board , sick  , sad  ” but   that  will change its  looking  pretty  good so far  an we want  to  do  all the  dates !  we  have  some  show`s   but  they  are  on the  week-ends ,  and   your  volunteer  dates are  on Tuesdays so  it  looks  very good  < we  sure  did  enjoy are  visits last time an the kids seemed to really  feel special  to have real pirates come see them ”

all the  kids  were  so  chipper  by  the  days  end  even the  kids whom did not want to do nothin (  some can be  very depressed  , sick <   Izabel has  a way of working with kids ” an making them feel special  ,loved , a big smile  is my goal  , we had  them making Pirate hats ,  craft s & things and they were  asking questions about what us pirate`s  do ? why  this an why that ? we keep everything PG  an we are good pirates “””

an we  always  answer in exciting  adventuresome fun story <   soon they  forget  an they  are having  fun  ” we visit the  kids  that cannot come to the  play room ” , sometimes we have to wear mask an such  an they cannot have candy , so we give them stickers  , an gold coins , a few  of our pirate post cards  so they can write  to gramma or a friends ” we  are  on the  post cards  ” the  smile of  surprize  when a childs eyes light -up is  more then   words  can  say  ” so its fun for them an we have a pirate pal club  for kids to write us  ,we send post cards to them of encouragement s ” an for a report cards  ( copy ) with AAA`s  they get a coins for ea one in the mail  or other trinkets an treasures ”

we  do  Pirate theme  characters , pirate queen & KIng  characters , midlevel & REnn . queen  ,  I also  do a cowgirl ( Annie oakly )  an i make  cascabel wild bill ” but he mostly like to do PIRates ” welll keep in touch with any new info  or  up dates ”

HI  Scott   !  we  just got  back form  a show  in   columbus  Ga  , the  civil war  ship  navel center ” i got  to  light  an pull the  plug  for  a  2 ton  cannon into  the river  chatahocxhee pirates they  call us ”   down  there ”   but   yes  i  beleive  we are  still open  an  we  have   Capt  Braze , an Terrie his  Mrs whom  have  moved   to Senioa  for  Miami Fla  they  bought a nice  house  on 7 acres  so  we  can  do  pirate stuff out  there ” LOL ” fire our mini  cannons  ” an bow arrow ” ect’   and   we   buried  treasure too !  so  they  wish  to  visit the  kids here  too they  have  done this  before in  the  Miami  ,  key west <  fort Latda  area < im  an  where  is  the  meeting at  ? not sure  if  they can do all  of  them  ?  but we  will find out   what  dates  ”  for  the  meeting   you  may  contact  Cascabel  arthur ”  at  xxxxx@bellsouth.net he  keeps  all  that  stuff  organized   at  this  time > im booking  shows  for  the  spring   an  all   2007   an  ive  kids   Birthday  partys  comming up  so  he  is  keeping  up  with the local stuff  ”  kick him out    E >  ill  forward  this  to him  too   an  he  will  E  you  > or  E  him   the meeting   info an  place ” time ” afternoon is good for us ”   thanks  SCott !
