Craigslist

I know some of you are wondering why I haven’t been posting as frequently lately (and I know some of you haven’t noticed at all), but the truth is that I have been busy packing and getting everything ready for my move.  Come this time next week, I (hopefully) will be moved into my condo in Arlington, Virginia.  In preparation of the move, I have been partaking in Operation: Sell Everything I Own on Craigslist.

Here is how I’ve done so far:

  • I sold my old 60 gig Ipod (three years old) for $100 to a very nice man last Sunday.  He made me meet him at a Starbucks “for his safety”.  Probably sold at a little below face value but I wasn’t able to get it to go for $125, so I am happy.
  • I sold the bar stools that my old friend Jeff and I bought when we were Juniors in college for $25.  We probably didn’t spend more than $40 on them at the time, so I’d say success.
  • I sold a bookshelf that my friend Nate gave me two years ago for $20.  It was kind of junky anyway (sorry Nate!).  The family that bought this, while at my apartment, became infatuated with a “paradise” painting I have on the wall, and went ahead and bought that, my clock and my old bedroom SD TV for $65.  They totally got a deal on that one, but that TV was a pain in the ass to move and now I can buy a HDTV for my bedroom at the new place.  Then he came back yesterday because he really wanted to buy my electric piano, which I’ve had for, no joke, 15 years.  It was sad to part with it, but he paid $50 for something that probably cost $150 in 1994 and was slightly damaged, so I won that one handily.
  • I sold another bookshelf that my friend Cody gave me three years ago for $25.  It was nice, but knowing Cody, I really have no idea what kind of stuff went on in and around that bookshelf, so I think success on that one as well.
  • I sold my dressed to a very nice husband and wife for $50.  It was a great dresser but I put it together the morning after graduation three years ago after only like one hour of sleep, so it wasn’t exactly put together perfectly.  In fact, a Georgia Tech student (probably an engineer) came by to check it out and wasn’t impressed by the craftmanship and passed.  His exact quote was “I’m very picky with my furniture and this isn’t up to my standards”.
  • I sold my TV stand for $25, which is a deal for them because its a great TV stand.
  • Finally, and this sale hasn’t occured yet, but I put my old Guitar Amp on craigslist because it too is very heavy and I never use it, and won’t be able to use it where I am moving to.  I put it on sale for $100, and again, this is probably something that cost no more than $300 at least 10 years ago.  As of press time, I’ve had 29 inquiries about the amp, and the Amp has only been posted for an hour.  Compare that to my queen size bed (one inquiry, see below) and my Washer and Dryer (three) and it says something.  I don’t know what it says, but it says something.

As previously mentioned, I’ve only gotten one response about my bed.  Here it is, verbatum:

I am really interested in that set that you have my aptment burn down on saturday some i am in need of a bed please contact me if it is still avaliable.

Maybe its mean to laugh at that, but I found it funny.
